And what are the potential pitfalls to look out for when focusing on planning a trendy wedding?
It can become a “keeping up with the Jones” type of effect where you lose the enjoyment of planning your special day together as a couple. Instead many become consumed with out-doing your friend who had a Michael Buble perform at her wedding the month before, it can get quite ridiculous and costly.
We Love Color! please give share your favorite wedding color combos with the readers…
I went to a very small, intimate wedding recently which was absolutely gorgeous and they had the colour combo of chocolate brown, tiffany blue and white. I always knew I loved that colour combination for a room somewhere in my house but I never thought I’d like it for a wedding. But it worked, it really did.
Trend forecast? Within the next year, what do you see as either making a comeback, debut or stand strong in wedding trends?
In the 2013 winter weddings I found “a move towards sophistication,” so glitzy for example crystal on the table, and gold silverware. I’ve seen more and more people making the event black tie instead of cocktail. However In the summer we will see an eclectic approach taking hold, so combining natural, outdoorsy details with elegant elements but still keep the feel light by adding playful elements like photo booths with props, which we’ve seen quite a bit over the years. One of my other favourite trends is when the couple places a disposable camera at every table, so often on the wedding day the couple is so overwhelmed that they don’t get the chance to greet and thank every guest, so by adding that camera element you allow the guests to create and capture memories for you as well.
Thank you for your time Lerato… any parting words of wisdom to future brides?
The best weddings always have that personal touch to it whether it is a completely custom shoes for the bride or meaningful cufflinks for the groom, a hand-drawn portrait that can be used in everything from thank you cards to programs or favours, vows printed on custom-made books that double as keepsakes after the big day. So the biggest ever present trend is definitely about making the day as unique and as personalized to you as possible.
“A perfect wedding isn’t only beautiful, it’s personal.
It’s got carefully selected details that are meaningful to you and your fiancé.”
So enjoy the process of planning your special day, it’s just one beautiful page out of the thousands you’ll still write together.
Communicate, take inspiration from trends but keep it classic and remember to capture as many beautiful memories as you can.
